Working after Graduation
To work in Canada after you graduate, you need a work permit. The work experience you gain while working may help you qualify for permanent residence.

Post-graduation work permit (PGWP)
Graduates of certain designated learning institutions are eligible for this work permit. If your program is at least 8 months, but less than 2 years. You may be able to get a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program. If you program is longer than 2 years, you may be able to get a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.
Please note that students are ineligible for a post-graduation work permit if they have completed the following:

an English as a second language or French as a second language course or program of study

general interest or self-improvement courses

a course or program of study at a private career college

If you have a spouse, they may also apply for an open work permit to get work experience in a Canadian workplace. *
